On August 29–30, 2026, we held SS-F Retreat 2026 in Kannai, Yokohama, under the theme “From Idea Sparks to Concrete Collaborations.” For the first time, SS-F Lighthouse Lab, which opened in April, served as the retreat’s main venue. This year also brought a wider mix of participants: alongside SS-F Inventors, we welcomed NOVA Fellows, Global Science Scholars (GSS) Fellows, and Emerging Researchers from their labs.

On July 23, 2026, SS-F hosted “SS-F Beacon Nights at Lighthouse Lab: Flow Cytometry & the Future of Single-Cell Science,” sponsored by Waters Biosciences (formerly BD Biosciences), at SS-F Lighthouse Lab in Kannai, Yokohama. The event brought together researchers to explore how advances in measurement technologies are changing what we can see, the questions we can ask, and the possibilities for future single-cell research. The program featured a presentation, panel discussion, and hands-on demonstration of the BD FACSDiscover™ S8.

Global Science Scholars Innovation Program Hosts “Fireside Chat with Founders”ーBringing Together U.S. and Japanese Fellows, Entrepreneurs, and Researchers to Explore Pathways for Translating Research into Societal Impact

On May 22, 2026, the Global Science Scholars (GSS) Program hosted Innovation Program #2: “Fireside Chat with Founders.” The event took place in a hybrid format connecting SS-F Lighthouse Lab, SS-F’s new co-creation research hub that opened in Yokohama Kannai this April, and Bakar Labs, the startup incubator at the University of California, Berkeley. With the generous support of Bakar Labs, the session brought together participants from Japan and the United States online. All ten fellows selected for the GSS Cohort 2025 participated in the program.
